Season 2012 - 2013
Season 2012 - 2013
Dear Friends;
The VSQ is very excited about our upcoming season for
several reasons. One of them is the ability to work with Scott Kluksdahl, our
new cellist. Beside the fact that Scott is a great musician he is also a
wonderful man and so easy to get along with. Quartets are, in many ways like
marriage, and the human factor is extremely important.
This season the VSQ plans to present three programs starting
the season a bit later, in December. We would like to devote our first meeting
in October mostly to practicing and limit performances.
We've done a lot of good natured arguing about the programs
but made our peace in the end! The theme of this season, “Around the World with
the String Quartet” gave us so many choices. We cannot wait to play Beethoven's
Op. 59 No. 1 in our Austrian program along with Mozart and Webern.
During our Australia program we will be playing String
Quartet No. 11 by the famous Australian composer Sculthorpe. Yes indeed, people
on that side of the world are writing wonderful music too! This program will
also include Haydn's Sunrise and Dvorak's Slavonic Quartet.
Our British invasion will be represented by Benjamin
Britten's Second Quartet. We will also play Quartettsatz by Schubert and
Mendelssohn's Op. 44, No. 1.
Some of these pieces we've played before and others are
completely new to us. It is very important to us to keep expanding our
repertoire. We will be learning from the new-to-us, Britten, Dvorak, Sculthorpe
and Beethoven works.
NEW VENUE IN COLORADO SPRINGS
We are very pleased to start our collaboration with the Fine
Arts Center in Colorado Springs this season. The VSQ will perform in the Music
Room of the Fine Arts Center. The Room has very lively acoustics and is perfect
for chamber music concerts with its cozy stage and close proximity of the
audience. This year concerts will begin at 2PM. Ticket prices for adults will
remain the same, but we have had to raise student tickets to $10, our first
increase since 2005. The FAC will handle ticket sales for the VSQ. Please,
visit their website at www.csfineartscenter.org for more information. Tickets
will be available for purchase at the FAC in advance and at the door before the
concert.
Yes, FAC has a parking lot as well as a restaurant and ever
amazing art exhibitions. What could be better than to spend a day at the
museum, have lunch and go to a chamber music concert? I dream of this life!
PUEBLO CONCERTS
We are very grateful to Ascension Episcopal Church for
hosting the VSQ in Pueblo. Last season we held two of our concerts at the
Ascension and found it very pleasant. Scheduling reasons prevent us from using
the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center this season so we will present
all of our Pueblo programs at Ascension Episcopal Church. The Sangre de Cristo
Arts and Conference Center has kindly agreed to continue selling tickets for
the VSQ. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the Ascension Epicopal
Church before the concert. We are hoping to return to the stage of the Sangre
de Cristo Arts and Conference Center for more performances in the future.
We look forward to seeing you at all the concerts or at
least the 3 in the venue closest to you!
Sincerely, Karine Garibova
